September 23 … ISABEL BISHOP---In NYC from the 1930’s through the 1950’s Isabel Bishop established her iconography of secretaries, shop girls and commuters inhabiting public places such as snack bars and parks. Her inventive, unique vision contributed to the 20th century American Scene.
October 14 … FAIRFIELD PORTER---Abstract Expressionism dominated American art during the 1950’s and 60’s. Porter concentrated on the figure. Like Vermeer he explored space, light and color in the domestic world that he knew best.
November 18 … AUDREY FLACK---During the 1970’s and 80’s Flack joined painting with commercialism to create bold, photo-realistic still-life image that command the viewer’s attention.
MATISSE IN MOROCCO---Matisse visited North Africa in 1912. The light and colors of exotic Morocco will influence Matisse’s art for the rest of his life.
