Various “EASY” Techniques for Handmade-Card Watercolors and Monoprints by Gina Judy
This class will explore various ways to use sharpies, pen and ink, calligraphy and simple printmaking techniques to make cards using a linear quality and “open color” techniques.
Mixed-media techniques of using colored pencils, watercolor-pencils, inks, and markers will be introduced. Simple washes will be demonstrated on both hot-press and cold-press watercolor-cards. Subject-matter demonstrated will include florals, foliage, and faces as emphasis, but a reference or still-life can be brought of your choosing and can be made to work. Isolation with line to add interest and linear drawing techniques such as parallel-lines and cross-hatching will be introduced. Beginners and advanced students will all enjoy creating with the various techniques. Simple monoprinting/relief-techniques will also be introduced; block-printing inks and brayers will be brought by the teacher for those wishing to also explore these ways to card-decorate.
Any of the above items (ink, sharpies, crayons, colored-pencils, watercolors, paper-towels, brushes, brayers,-even crayons…. or acrylics) (we can water them down) that students have and want to bring, would be fine. Don’t let lack of ANY supplies preclude anyone from coming; supplies WILL also be available to be used. Also, please bring any item that has a raised TEXTURE if you wish. If you have your own blank-cards and wish to bring those, that would be most helpful. Also having an apron or coverup may be helpful if doing the printing.
$5 fee to MAL plus a small $3-5 materials fee.
