MAL Studio Themed Exhibit "Wonder" Registration due 11/3 (Tuesday, November 03, 2026)

The MAL Studio Gallery theme is "Wonder" although as usual, the theme is flexible. No sitting required!

Please sign up and register online for free by Tuesday, 11/3/2026. Please participate as it adds color and fun to the studio. You drop off your work and pick up your previous work at the MAL studio. Pickup and dropoff Thursday, 11/5/2026, 4-5 (note the new time as there is a class that day). If you have access to the studio, you can also drop off at your convenience.

You may enter up to four pieces which can be prints or work previously shown. Information is needed by the deadline to provide time to design and print tags. You need to put tags on the back of your work with artist and title and register online or email your info to Lisa Markowski at markomosaics@gmail.com ASAP so tags can be made. Include Title, Price and Medium. Must be ready to hang. Please do not use sawtooth hangers.

There is no entry fee but a 15% commission on sold works is retained by MAL. The show will stay up through January although you can certainly take pieces out if necessary.

The principles of Classical Art will be discussed and demonstrated. Form, Light, Space, Atmosphere, Composition, Color, and Value are all essential concepts. They apply to the landscape, the portrait, the still life, floral, and the figure.

There will be a still life demonstration one day and a landscape demonstration the other day.

Oils

Suggested Brands of oil paint: Sennelier, Rembrandt, Winsor & Newton, Blockx, Williamsburg, Gamblin. Do not use Winton or any student grade oils because they contain mostly filler with little pigment.

Oil Paints: (these are listed in order as they are placed on the palette) Titanium White (large tube), Cadmium Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Orange, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Red Medium, Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Thalo Blue, Raw Umber, Ivory Black (large tube), Thalo Green

Bristle Brushes All sizes; 1/4" in width up to 2" and 3". Two or three small pointed sable brush (No. 6). Avoid synthetic brushes.

Painting Medium to thin your paint: You can purchase a small bottle of painting medium in most art stores or hobby stores.

Brush Washer: These are available in most art stores but you can also use a glass jar. Put Mineral Spirits (also known as Paint Thinner) in it for cleaning brushes.

Palette: The best palette is one that is toned a medium gray. A wooden palette is also very good. Avoid using a white palette.

Palette knife for mixing

Work with donated china pieces to make a masterpiece! Paints and china pieces provided for free! Or bring your own china pieces! Bring some small brushes if you have them. The paint is water-soluble.

A $5 donation is requested.

You can paint anything you want but here's what Sandy and Jan did for practice. Bring a flat box to carry your wet pieces home as they need to dry for 24 hours before baking in your home oven. Instructions will be provided.

Steph teaches landscape acrylic painting techniques.

Students will learn to create realism style landscape paintings using the layering method. Acrylic painters of all skill levels are welcome. Techniques will be applied to build confidence and accurately translate color, shape, and light onto canvas. Best practices in landscape painting will be discussed, including use of focal points, creating a composition, and use of color and value to create a mood.

Students will begin the class with group painting exercises using reference images provided by the instructor. Later in the class, students are welcome to work on their own individual landscape paintings, referencing their own photographs or reference images provided by the instructor.

McMurray Art League has shown art at PT Library for many years. Library patrons enjoy seeing the art we display. And sometimes they buy art!

Please consider showing your 2-dimensional pieces at the library through 6/16/2027. You may enter up to three 2-dimensional pieces no larger than 24” top to bottom. There is no entry fee, but there is a 15% commission on sold works (10% to the library and 5% to MAL). Peters Twp. Library pick-up/drop-off "Show and Tell" (Wednesday, June 16, 2027)

McMurray Art League has shown art at PT Library for many years. Library patrons enjoy seeing the art we display. And sometimes they buy art!

Please consider showing your 2-dimensional pieces at the library through 10/13/2027. You may enter up to three 2-dimensional pieces no larger than 24” top to bottom. There is no entry fee, but there is a 15% commission on sold works (10% to the library and 5% to MAL). Contact Sandy Conley conley1973@verizon.net or register here by the Monday before the exhibit hanging. Provide artist’s name, title of piece, medium, and price or NFS (Not for Sale) or POR (Price On Request). Bring your pieces to Peters Township Library at 9:30 am on the day of hanging.
